Understanding Menstrual Health and Pelvic Pain: for LGBTIQ+ Women and Gender Diverse People.

Persistent Pelvic Pain affects up to 1 in 4 women and people assigned female at birth.

This free online workshop facilitated by Sexual Health Victoria will provide an overview of the menstrual cycle and related pelvic pain conditions.

Who is this event for?

This workshop is designed for members of the LGBTIQA+ community who menstruate, inclusive of non-binary and trans-masc people.

As we will be discussing menstrual health and related pelvic pain conditions, this workshop will be most relevant for those who were born with a uterus/ovaries.

Who is this event facilitated by?

This workshop will be led by:

  • a community educator from the LGBTIQ+ community
  • a General Practitioner from Sexual Health Victoria.

What will this workshop cover:

The menstrual cycle

  • understanding the menstrual cycle
  • how and when to get support
  • gender affirming hormone treatment and menstruation

Related health conditions including PMDD, endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS, and heavy or painful periods. Well talk about:

  • symptoms
  • how these conditions are diagnosed
  • treatment options.

We’ll also learn how to advocate for yourself (and others) and where to find helpful resources and support services.

Menstrual health and pelvic pain can bring up complex feelings for some people.

  • Sensitive topics may come up during the session, including discussion of body parts, chronic pain and illness, and fertility.
  • Support resources will be shared at the start of the workshop and we will facilitate a group agreement to help everyone feel comfortable in the space.
  • We ask participants not to share personal stories.
  • Please reflect on what supports you may need during or after the session.
  • You’re welcome to take breaks at any time.

This session will include a Q&A with a General Practitioner from Sexual Health Victoria

Participants are encouraged to submit questions relating to menstrual health and pelvic pain via the registration form.
