More choice, lower costs and better health care for women.

On 9 February 2025 the Australian Government pledged to invest $573.3 million to strengthen medicare for women. With the Coalition supporting this decision.
The announcement has been celebrated around the country with many significant organisations in support of the investment. In summary, these are the key focus points for the budget allocation:
- Yaz® and Yasmin® contraceptive pills are now listed on the PBS which could save hundreds of dollars per year for over 50,000 women country-wide.
- Up to $400 in out-of-pocket costs will be covered for IUDs and birth control implants for over 300,000 women per year.
- A focus on menopause: medicare rebates for health assessments an allocation towards training health professionals the conception of clinical guidelines the first national awareness campaign
- Three new menopausal hormone therapies are now listed on the PBS; progesterone (Prometrium®), estradiol (Estroge|®) and estradiol & progesterone (Estrogel® Pro) saving hundreds of dollars per year for over 150,000 women.
- 11 new Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain clinics will be opening, bringing the total count to 33 nationwide. Staff will also be trained to provide specialist support for menopause.
- Two national trials will commence for 250,000 concession cardholders to obtain contraceptives and treatment for uncomplicated UTIs from trained pharmacists.
This is a five-year investment by the Albanese Labor Government. Some initiatives will take effect very soon & others will be implemented following a re-election of the Labor party in 2025.
